About the program

We all strive to leave the world a better place—through our children, our good deeds, our generosity. Creating your Jewish legacy ensures that you will remembered and your work and your values will continue when you are no longer here. In a hundred years, you can still be changing lives. It also serves as an example to your loved ones that you believe it's important to support the Jewish community.

Create Your Jewish Legacy (CYJL) is the Cincinnati Jewish community's coordinated, collaborative initiative, begun in September 2014, to increase endowments to our agencies and congregations. Organized through the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati, the first cohort of twelve agencies and congregations is now in its third year, and a second cohort began its work in March 2017.

Nationally, Create Your Jewish Legacy is a set of shared best practices. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been raised in legacy commitments through CYJL programs in over 40 other communities.

Funding for Create Your Jewish Legacy

Create Your Jewish Legacy (CYJL) is a Jewish Federation of Cincinnati partnership with local agencies and congregations to ensure a strong Jewish community for generations to come. Together with generous funding from The Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati and seven private families, the Jewish Federation is investing in the long-term sustainability of our local Jewish organizations. Together we promote the message that all of us, regardless of age, wealth, or affiliation, have the ability to make a difference for future Jewish generations. Our goal is for every local Jewish organization to have a significant endowment, allowing them to continue their important mission and to serve our community with vital and innovative programming and services.

"Our legacy gifts will ultimately be their gifts too."
— Stuart and Terry Susskind, grandparents of Kate and Zach
