Dr. Hamilton and Debbie Lempert

Debbie and Hamilton met in 1992 in Cincinnati, Ohio right after Hamilton started his residency at UC. They were married in May, 1994. When Hamilton finished residency he told Debbie they could live wherever she wanted, so they moved a mile and a half from her parents here in Cincinnati. With two children, they have made a home in Cincinnati, actively participating in the Jewish community—particularly at Adath Israel, Jewish Family Service and the Mayerson JCC, and have also been generous supporters of the Jewish Federation.

“If I am not for myself, who is for me? And if I am only for myself, what am I? If not now, when?” —Rabbi Hillel

This statement sums up the motivation for our Legacy gift. It has always been our motivation to “Pay it forward,” to assist others in gratitude for the help our family received.

Our grandparents immigrated from Europe to start a new life in America. The Jewish Family Service helped resettle Debbie’s family in Cincinnati, providing a fresh start and new home, no strings attached. We have forever been grateful for this help at a pivotal time in their lives.

Adath Israel Congregation has become our second home in Cincinnati. There we learn, volunteer, and pray with our community, and we want to ensure that our Jewish home is there for future families to thrive.

But a synagogue in isolation is not a community. The Jewish Community Center and Federation are both essential in providing the network and support system for families like ours.

With our legacy gift we want to give back, but also give forward, to ensure that our children and future generations have a strong, vibrant and supportive Jewish community in which to thrive.
