Lucille Klau Carothers*

Lucille Klau Carothers learned at a young age how much good can be accomplished by sharing one’s blessings with others. Growing up in New York, she saw how her parents were deeply affected by events in Europe, including the Holocaust. In its wake, they strove to help survivors and ensure Jewish continuity. Lucille takes pride in what her family’s foundation has accomplished for the community, including Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religions’s world famous library that bears the Klau name. When Lucille inherited the foundation, she continued her parents’ legacy of generosity through involvement with HUC-JIR, the Jewish Federation and Wise Temple. She hopes her children, in turn, have learned the importance of giving and being aware of the needs of others.
