Stephan D. Weiss, PhD
Stephan was born in New York City in 1943, to parents who had come to the United States as refugees—his mother from Romania and father from Czechoslovakia when they were young and subsequently were married after their courtship. An accomplished student, Stephan received academic honors in college (University of Connecticut) and was awarded an NIMH fellowship to support his Ph.D. education (University of Massachusetts). Stephan joined the University of Cincinnati in 1970 where he both achieved tenure as an Associate Professor of Psychology and developed a nationally recognized student mental health center. He serves on the Board of Directors of the American College Health Foundation and, locally, he offers mental health consultation services to Cincinnati’s Jewish Family Service (JFS). As the founder and Executive Director of the “Stephan D. Weiss Foundation,” he fulfills his philanthropic commitment to college mental health advocacy.
Beneficiary organizations- Jewish Family Service
The death of my father when I was 7 years old and its tragic effects upon my family impressed me with the significance of mental health services which my mother sought for me at New York’s Jewish Philanthropic Child Guidance services.
My legacy gift to JFS implements my philanthropic mission to promote its delivery of high quality clinical education to its staff through this gift’s support of clinical supervision and staff development opportunities that will promote clinical excellence of JFS’s mental health care for its clients.
