Ronald Rose*

Ron Rose was born in Cleveland. He went to Bowling Green to play football, majored in art, and graduated in 1952. Enlisted in the Army, Ron served as a Sergeant in Korea. After the war, he came to Cincinnati to teach art, but later entered the insurance business, where he was immediately successful. He raised his family, Julie, Andy (deceased), and Sally in Cincinnati.

Early on, Ron got involved at the JCC, becoming President at 42, and staying involved through “good and bad times.” He has played softball at the J for over 60 years, and has won every single award available, including the Kovad, Niva, Harkavy, and Cohen Awards.

I have had a commitment to the JCC since 1954. I’m proud of where the JCC is now—and where it is going in the future.

The JCC has helped keep me connected with Jewish life. Its history, and its services to our community, are so very important, and we must keep it going forward.

Ron is my 2nd cousin, I knew his parents well. He and my Mum were cousins. We both went to Bowling Green, some years apart. We both played softball, he in Cincinnati and me for Great Britain. We reconnected at a reunion in Cleveland a few years back. We've invited him to join us in next year's Maccabiah Games as a tribute to his many accomplishments in softball.

Ron was truly a legend at the Mayerson JCC! As a Past President of the JCC Board from 1972-1975, Ron stayed involved over the years...always participating in meetings to select award winners and his perfect attendance at our annual Past Presidents Breakfast! Ron was part of the JCC Men's Softball league for 60+ years and impacted hundreds of league participants of every age! Ron was always "selling" the league when he would meet someone new to town...personally recruiting dozens of players to the league over the years...he was a great ambassador for the league and the JCC, and will be missed by his many friends and our community!
