Cincinnati had long been home to great educational institutions by 1913 and was, therefore, an obvious choice for the new School of Jewish Social Service. The school afforded social workers the opportunity to be trained as true professionals in their field.

Under the guidance of Boris Bogen, the school is credited for creating an air of professionalism in the realm of social services.

Bogen’s accomplishments were numerous – among them: establishment of the Jewish Social Service Bureau, as well as serving as Director of the United Jewish Charities.
