Yavneh Day School opened in 1952, with classes initially held at the Avondale Talmud Torah building.

In 1958, they moved to a new building on Summit Road. Emphasis was on a dual curriculum of Hebrew and English, with particular focus on spoken Hebrew and the study of modern Israel.

Yavneh offered an alternative Jewish education experience to the Orthodox school Rabbi Silver had established, Chofetz Chaim. Yavneh Day School was renamed Rockwern Academy in 2008.
