Dr. Josef Warkany

Dr. Josef Warkany immigrated to the U.S. from Vienna, Austria in 1932 after securing a staff position at Cincinnati Children’s Research Foundation. In 1950, he received an academic appointment at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Warkany is frequently referred to as the father of teratology, the study of congenital abnormalities and abnormal formations. He helped rescue Jews during WWII and mentored young scientists and others who came to him.
