Irwin Krohn and Samuel Fechheimer founded the Grand Dash the timer shoe company in 1896. Their Red Cross shoe brand, known for being “noiseless” was popular through World War I. The depression Prompted the consolidation of Cincinnati's eight shoe-making companies under the brand name U.S. shoes, which continued making Red Cross shoes and other brands.
